Hi all,
I thought I would post this here since some of you might live in the Freemont area.
Today I was volunteering for Dove Lewis at the Whole Foods market on 15th and Freemont. A woman walked up leading an old dog with a huge tumor/growth on her shoulder. The dog looks like a Blue Heeler mix or some kind of cattle dog. The woman can not keep the dog and went around knocking on doors to see if she (the dog) belonged to anyone. They checked for microchip and any tags but nothing.
The dog is in very poor condition. Not starved but with that large tumor, has either mange or hot spots at the base of her tail, nails are very long. It was a heart breaking site.
We gave her a bath and tried to clean her up a bit.
Anyway, the woman took her to Oregon Humane Society but they said they do not take in strays...(what!? ...this is odd, where do they get all those dogs and cats then)?
I told her about a few rescue places, but first we want to see if anyone knows of a missing dog.
Here is the description:The dog is medium sized, female, brindle in color w/white on her legs, older as her muzzle is very gray. Not tags, collar or chip. Large tumor or growth on her right shoulder, hot spots on her butt and tail.
If anyone knows someone with a missing dog, please call, Lindsay at 480-262-8868
It was very sad seeing this dog. Either she belongs to an older person or someone just let her go because of her condition. Thats my opinion. If you can think of a great place that takes in found/rescued dogs please call her as well. I can't imagine what might become of this poor dog.
Thanks,
Michelle
