Looking for a VERY pet-friendly rental!

Hello, everyone!

I am currently living in Florida but moving to Portland at the beginning of May 2010. It will be a challenging move, as my daughter and I have 7 pets; three dogs (a Pomeranian and two Chihuahuas) and four cats. We are looking for a very pet-friendly rental, but believe we have a lot to offer a landlord/owner; we are responsible, caring people, my daughter is a veterinary assistant, and I telecommute, so someone will be at home with our pet family almost all the time. I am willing to pay an extra pet deposit for each pet. The only absolutes we need are that our new home within reasonable walking distance of a bus line or the MAX, and I need the capability for high-speed internet access for my work. Everything else could certainly be made workable.

I am amazed at this wonderful site and grateful to Andrea for suggesting it, and that I post here. I have joined the Chi social group and hope to get to know many of you soon. I will post pictures of our pet family later today.

I would start with craigslist. I recently moved to Portland (about 7 months ago) and it was a challenge to find a rental that would accept a Chihuahua and a German Shepherd (mostly because of breed or weight restrictions).

My sister lives in Waverly Greens, and apartment complex that accepts ALL dogs, so you could also check them out. I might be moving into those apartments myself in a month or so.

Yes, I'm very sure I will, and yes, I'm finding that out, re pet friendly! In addition to looking at the ads on Craig's List I also placed one of my own, to test the waters, so to speak. I was amazed that I received three responses, good ones, the first day. Granted, it's still too early to actually rent a place, but I feel really encouraged that it really is, with diligence and networking, going to be possible for all of us to move to Portland. Yay!

Check into Portland Rental Service or Dwell Management. They have a multi pet friendly policy. I have three pets (large dog and 2 cats) and rent a townhouse from them. There is a per pet monthly fee, but to me it's worth it. www.portlandrentalservice.com http://dwellmanagement.com/

I've noticed Dwell from time to time when looking at ads on Craig's List; it's nice to hear from someone who's renting from them! I will contact Portland Rental Service as well. Thanks so much for the tips!
