I'm new to this group and saw Miko & Bosco's question about dog parks around 106th and Stark. The park on 117th, I'm assuming you are talking about Ventrua park, is not an "offical" dog park.

The closest off leash park in this area is Cherry Park on 110th and se Stephens. It's not fancy and not fenced but it's clean and there are usually regulars there on a daily basis.

Here is the link to portland parks and rec:

a warning to SE dog park visitors ... Today I was at Mt. Tabor Dog park with my two puppies (ages 5mos & 12mos). Ellie (pictured) is my older one, and both dogs have always been fantastic with all humans, they love babies, toddlers, kids and even us adults ... very social & friendly dogs.

anyway, you get the picture, I have grown to trust Ellie around kids, still watch, but she loves them. Today, a boy about 7 or 8 was petting both puppies, he had ahold of Ellie (just a couple of feet in front of me) ... I did not see him do anything wrong, but Ellie snapped/barked at him, close to his face. I immediately leashed her, asked if he was ok, and he was laughing. I leashed my younger puppy & moved away from the kid & his older sister (about 10ish)

both kids came back over to my puppies and proceeded to manhandle them. I looked at mom and asked if she could keep her kids away from my (leashed) dogs ... she stated we were in a dog park & if my dogs weren't safe, I shouldn't be there (normally I would agree with that thought) but we are talking pups with no history of any bad behaviour, both were leashed after the first incident, and the kids were persisting with mom's encouragement.

I made a comment to mom that some day one of her kids were going to be injured with this behaviour, and she stated that then the dog owner would have to pay (and she had a sly smirk)

I left the park, and as an afterthought, I really wonder if she was encouraging her kids to push the limit with dogs ... really, that was the vibe I got.

Ellie has been a regular at Mt. Tabor, daily for 8 months, trust me, it is not in her nature to snap, this kid obviously pushed a button on my puppy

be cautious, even if your dog is kid safe, not every kid is safe with your dog!!

Hello Everyone! We are new to pdxdog. We love it so far. We also just moved into the Brooklyn neighborhood (13th and Bush-ish). Does anyone reside around there?

Woodstock park is further away, so that probably won't work for you.

Where is woodstock? and I don't have a car I'm not sure I can get all the way to Mt. Tabor. My dogs would be worn out by the time we got there! lol

Hi I'm a little new to the area. I stay off 106th and stark. I was wondering where a good place to go to take my dogs to play? I take them up to that park on 117th i think it is but there are almost no dogs there and the ones that are there either don't play or they don't play well and try and bully my dogs. is there another place I can take them? I don't have a car any more. I used to take them to the dog park on 53ish and Halsey. but I don't know where to take them to play and that is safe. I wish there was a fenced area near but that's asking to much lol! thanks!
