I will have a booth near the center doors, and will be in the ring shooting 1/2 the time, so come find me between classes :)

Well, then she has the cutest twin running around and I'm just nutty. I saw your pictures and both your dogs are awfully cute. I'm thinking of showing up at the AKC trial on Saturday to watch. I'll look for you if I go.

nope, don't think that would be me, I haven't been to a CAT fun match or to any of Barbara's classes. My Ellie is just 15 mos old, & is 1/2 way thru her training, our plan is to start in CPE in March (we hope)

As soon as I get off my tush I will join CAT. Madigan is a mixed breed so we will be game for whoever will take us. Oh and hi Nina. I think I recognize your dog from the CAT fun match and at Barbara Persson's class? I talked to you about flyball I think? We aren't quite ready for competition yet.

Just wanted to say hi to all in the group. Madigan and I are very new to agility, no competition yet, just some classes but hopefully we'll get to meet you all at one event or another.

darn it - going to miss this one. We are going to an AKC show down in Roseburg this weekend. I saw you busy working away the last time at the fairgrounds so I didn't interupt but next time I'll say hi

thanks for the input Diana, this is why we started this group :)

for those that want to stop by & see what agility is all about, pick Diana's brain or just say hi ... I have a vendor booth just inside the center doors, you can use that as a meet up spot, to connect with others, or find me (big lady with big camera), and I'll point others out :)

Hi Sue--
I saw your note to Dick Watson at CAT about starting a puppy in agility and looking for books on training for agility. Most trainers don't start formal agility training until the dog is about a year old, so that the growth plates have closed before the dog starts jumping and stressing the joints. Before that time, though, a lot of foundation work is done. One of the best books on creating a good foundation for competition training of any sort is Bobbie Anderson's Building Blocks for Performance, which gives a set of basic skills you need in any kind of competition, from a well-socialized dog that focuses on you without displaying any aggression or distress in a busy competition situation, to a dog that understands how to learn.

I also really like Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson which gives a lot of instruction in how to teach your dog to learn.

Susan Garrett has a training DVD on Crate Games that introduces a lot of really useful skills for a puppy to have when training for agility--it's not just about teaching your dog to love his crate (although that's another useful skill for any kind of competitive situation).

If you come to the USDAA trial in a few weeks, I'd be happy to talk to you more.

Diana
