Hi Carole,

Thank you for the information, but I am not a big fan of Beagles or other scent hounds, my brother has the cutest Basset I have ever seen, Elmo, but I still don't desire to own one that is much of a scent hound....we don't have fencing here either. We will have to acclimate any dog to our place then only let them off lead as we feel we can....the 2 dogs that live here now are very good about not straying off, but you do have to work with them to get them to that point, we are aware of that and willing to do so, but it may not be fair to ask that of those types of breeds. I was also hoping for a slightly smaller dog, not little, but maybe 25 lbs - 10 lbs at the smallest. Thank you again though and good luck with placing her!

Hi Anne,
I'm fostering a dog right now that is crazy cute and smart. About 35#. Beagle/Coonhound mix?
~1.5 years old. She would love the area you have to run around in.....do you have any fenced area?

Hello,

We are looking for dog to adopt.

We lost our sweet little Pug to leg Cancer back in July of this year and we are now ready to add a new member to our family. Boscoe the Great Dane has a chocolate lab friend who lives on the property to paly with, so we are looking for a smaller dog that he can get along with but doesn't need to be able to "play" with. We would like to find a pug/cross as we just loved the personality of our little girl, but didn't like the breathing - overheating issues she had - so a cross with a longer nose would be ideal...I have also been looking at French Bulldog crosses but don't mind a round smaller build dog that has either of these breeds as a main background - other breeds, crosses would be considered as well but would prefer something small (not too small as Boscoe is 160 lbs and even though gentle and careful we don't want any broken bones on accident) and stocky built, to be able to withstand an accidentally knock or step from Boscoe. Boscoe maybe knocked our Pug over 2 x's on accident and neither time was very hard but a chihuahua sized dog is just not a good idea in my opinion.

We live on 40 acres in a very secluded area so the dogs are free to run, once they learn where home is of course and even then we don't let them get out of sight for very long due to the wildlife that lives in the woods around us.

If you know of any dogs that might fit this description, please feel free to contact us as we would prefer to adopt then buy. We do have pet insurance and feed a raw food diet but we are open to doing what is best for the dog, not what we want for it. I have a degree as a Vet Tech but no longer work in that field but am open to looking at dogs that might need meds, etc. - our Pug was a seizure dog since she was 1-1/2 years old and she lived to be 11 yrs and had a great life, so I know that even a dog with issues can still be a great companion. We would consider adopting another Great Dane if one needed a home as well, but we know the Great Dane Rescue people of Washington so we can find one there if we decide that is our first choice breed (can possibly also hook-up someone down here with them, but they prefer to home them in WA first, Portland, Vancouver would be a second choice).

I don't see any recent dogs posted on this group, so if there is a preferred place that I should be looking, please let me know. I have been to petfinders.com already, didn't find anything there (except Milton who just got a home before we enquired) that was a great match. We don't want a Pitbull and it seems most of them on there are Pitbulls, and the purebred French Bulldogs and Pugs were all very expensive to adopt (are they just selling older dogs under the pretense of "adopting" them?). I know there are real costs involved in rescuing dogs, but there are a lot of costs involved in owning one as well and I prefer to make sure we have pet insurance, regular vet check-ups, the best food etc. so am looking for a reasonable re-homing fee. If you feel I am being too picky, please let me know and let me know what is out there we should consider.

Thank you!!

One of our long-term fosters; it was a nice way for the summer to end:

http://www.kval.com/news/local/69921102.html

EUGENE, Ore. - Hattie Yeager says it's like something out of an Animal Planet TV show--her cattle dog Misty is safe at home, 18 months after the cattle dog ran away.

"It's just amazing, you can't even describe it," said the Eugene woman. "It's just like thinking your old friend is gone for the rest of your life and you get her back. It's like having a second chance."

Misty, nicknamed Mimi, was by Yeager's side for 13 years. Yeager bought her while living on Fort Gordon, an Army base in Augusta, Georgia. Since she couldn't keep her in the barracks, Yeager boarded the dog at a friend's house--often staying the night to spend time with her puppy.

Yeager navigated life with Misty by her side, moving from Georgia to Washington to Oregon, getting married and giving birth to two children.

But it was nothing compared to journey the cattle dog would take over the past two years.

In January 2008, the Yeager family moved into a house in West Eugene. Yeager, pregnant with her third child at the time, thought the backyard was secure.

Then 13-year-old Misty found a way out, as dogs are wont to do, escaping from the backyard. Yeager and her children were heartbroken.

"In my heart, we always kept looking," she said.

Two months later, Yeager got a glimmer of hope. She believes she spotted Misty in a news story about Lane County Animal Services. By the time her husband got to the shelter, the dog was no longer there.

Shelter manager Tom Howard says without a case number, there's no way of knowing if Misty was at the shelter. But for Yaeger, it was the first sign that her beloved dog was still alive.

Unbeknowst to the Yeagers, Misty was found wandering along Highway 34 near Corvallis that April. The Heartland Humane Society contacted the Philomath-based Pet Adoption Network to find a home for the dog.

By this time, Misty had gone blind due to progressive retinal atrophy, a genetic disease found in cattle dogs.

Because of that disability, "we figured we would probably have her forever," said Linda Watkins, a PAN volunteer. "A dog like that we'll keep in foster until the end comes."

Watkins found a foster home for Misty in Klamath Falls, where she lived until this fall.

That's when Yeager learned about the Web site petfinder.com, which posts pictures of animals up for adoption.

"The minute we clicked on, she was the first one on there," said Yeager. "Both my oldest son and I were like, 'That's Misty!'"

The dog in the photo, called Iris, had more gray fur, but Yeager was 98% sure the dog was hers. She exchanged e-mails with Watkins before driving to Klamath Falls to see the dog and convince the other 2% more.

"Instantly when I saw her, I was like, 'That's Mimi," said Yeager. "Everything was Misty. When you scratch her back she'll back into you."

"That's a first for me," said Watkins. "I've been doing rescue for about 10 years now. I've placed a lot of dogs. You hear stories like this every once in awhile but you never expect this to happen."

The Pet Adoption Network is a rescue organization that takes great care to place dogs in suitable homes. So before Yeager could adopt Misty, she filled out a three page application. A PAN volunteer also visited her home.

The Yeagers passed with flying colors and brought Misty home in early November.

"I don't know how long we'll have her," said Yeager. "But I told my husband the first night, if I have her for a day, that would be enough, cause we really missed her."

This sweet guy was found running along the highway in Western Washington 2 weeks ago. No collar, no microchip, thin and in need of a friend. Picked up by a good sam who didn't want to take him to the high-kill shelter, she's currently fostering him in an outdoor kennel, but can't keep him! She does feral cat resuce/rehab and the energetic young guy is upsetting the cats to say the least.
She got him neutered, had a vet check, and is working on getting some weight on him. He's about 35lb, thinks he's a lap dog, and loves everyone (and yes he has an underbite!). Our best guess is pit/lab mix? Age is guesstimated around 1-2 yrs old. He's not food or toy aggressive, wants to play with other dogs and thinks cats are fun to bark at. If you can help us find a foster home, or even better...a forever home, let me know!

Wow! This is a great group...what lucky DOGS!! I volunteer with Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals (OFOSA). We post all our dogs on PetFinder.com and we have a network of over 100 dog foster homes. I will post one of our more needy dogs on here for everyone to consider. If you know of a home that would be open to any of our dogs please feel free to contact me. Also, if you are interested in fostering in the Hillsboro area (our fosters are located from Banks to Gresham) let me know. Thanks! Cyndi

I "think" we found foster homes -- well, we lost one boy in Idaho....shelter staff "error"....they didn't know that he had rescue confirmed :-( but we're getting another male from ID (anyone coming from Boise to Portland in the next few days?); have a place for the female at Williamette H.S.; the male at Marion County shelter is good; the female in Red Bluff was transferred to another shelter & if she gets in trouble again I'll be notified; and the little red girl who is with her owners, but unwanted has a foster space as soon as we can get her out...no more cattle dogs for a month or so, please!

Petunia is my foster child this week. She may have lost one eye but don't let that stop U from meeting her. she is a 1 year old playful, loving chihuahua mix who likes other dogs and cats too. Can be a little protective of her toys so not a good choice for a family with young kids.
Could be a little barky if left in an apt so consider that as well. She will be at the Tualatin petsmart adoption day Saturday from 11-5 She is a great dog ..could she be yours????
