FLYBALL in CORVALLIS - Posted 11/10/09 on Craigslist:

Looking for something fun to do with your dog?
Flyball may be for you and your dog.

This is a good way bond with your dog and excercise it too without getting wet!
Flyball is a fast paced team relay race. Think drag racing for dogs!

A flyball course consists of a starting line, 4 hurdles spaced 10 feet apart and a box 15 feet from the last jump. The dogs jump the hurdles and steps on a spring loaded box that shoots out a tennis ball. The dog catches the tennis ball and then runs back over the 4 hurdles with the ball. When the dog crosses the starting line the next dog goes.

Dogs that excel in this:

-Are not dog aggressive
-Have a decent recall
-Like balls
-Are friendly
-Are athletic

Practices are held at 10:00 a.m. Saturdays and are $5 per class

Hi, Nina!

X-Fidos list their next class as starting Jan. 2010, and it's at 11 a.m., and their practice starts at noon. Contact them for more information: classes@x-fidos.org. They also sometimes offer an evaluation session for a dog, at their demos.

We (Tail Blazers) have class at 4 p.m. on Sundays and then practice starts at 5:30. For more information, I don't know how full the current class is, and whether you could come in December. We are canceling class/practice Dec. 6th because of a tournament in BC, and I don't know whether we'll have classes over the holidays. For more information, e-mail portland_tailblazers@flyballdogs.com.

The Salem team, Muddy Paws a'Flyin', has class on Saturday at 5 p.m., and practice afterwards. Don't know about their schedule in December either, but you can contact them at
timslm@comcast.net.

ps, we'd love to find a team, but would be limited to Sunday night or weeknight practice due to our agility schedule

Is there anywhere where my mini aussie(s) and I can take flyball lessons in December? We have available time on the weekends for the month only, otherwise weekdays is all we've got.

I'd love to see if Ellie (16mos & 17" tall) has what it takes, and not sure if Hafu (9mos & 17" tall) is ready to try.

Ellie keeps up with all border collies & whippets at the dog park, loves to bring back the ball, is a novice in agility, and is picutred as my avatar :)

The half time show was lots of fun - actually all the X-Fido dogs were new to the venue. We were quite proud that they all did their job with no trouble. Kodi - Pomeranian, Irie - Pit Bull, Zoey - Cardigan Corgi, Sadie - Mini Aussie and Lexi - Border Collie. I thought it was fitting that we tied since PTB represented the Ducks and X-Fidos represented the Beavers.

The Tail Blazers and X-Fidos raced yesterday, for the Portland Trailblazers' halftime show. It was a lot of fun! The race was declared a tie! Our little rat terrier Elli performed beautifully, and Sadie of the X-Fidos made a notable halftime debut, as well!

From a Craiglist posting:

Looking forward to getting some flyball teams started in Eug/Sprgfld.

I Need; FAST high-drive med to large dogs (ex:Border Collies) that are BALL CRAZY! AND 2 small Jack Russell types. (I don't want to buy a dog)
I Need; the dogs owners (thats you!) that will dedicate quality time to the training it takes to get dogs to competition levels.
I want to start a couple of teams here in Eugene/Sprgfld area.
Two teams; one crazy fast, and another that just wants to have fun.

Hi, Linda! Are you heading up to Auburn this weekend? Sounds like fun. I'm working on a Halloween costume ENSEMBLE for me and my two dogs. Need to find a hard hat. Re: your question - I met several members of the new Philomath Team this weekend. Don't know if they have a team name yet, and some of their dogs are pretty green. But they're very motivated and it's great that we have a 4th team in Oregon. I'll see if I can find out more. Possibly I posted on it a while ago, too - will look through my back comments. The team leader is a former Pawcific Storm member who moved to the Corvallis area.

Nancy, I've heard that there is a NEW flyball team in Oregon, working out of Philomath. What do you know about them?
Nancy Westrell Comment by Nancy Westrell on October 19, 2009 at 1:27pm
I believe all three Oregon teams are heading up to Auburn, Washington, this weekend, for the South of the Boo!der tournament, hosted by the Cascade Comets. Portland Tail Blazers are excited at the successes of our new height dog, Elli the Rat Terrier, who's been performing like a pro! The tournament is at the Argus Ranch Facility for Dogs. Come see flyball dogs in action!
