Took Rowan for a herding instinct test this week and now she will be taking lessons! We think she was bred for cattle herding in WY and Dave (trainer) thinks she was probably too soft for what they were probably looking for....but she's got great sheep instincts and shouldn't have a problem moving cows once she knows what she's doing and gains some confidence. Guess I need to learn to walk backwards over uneven terrain whilst surrounded by sheep....
Anyone else doing herding with their Aussie?

Just wondering if anyone knows more about ASCA plan to offer Rally Obedience in the future. I saw on the ASCA committee listings that they have a Rally Committee now. That would really be a fun event for them to add here in Region 1!

I really wish I'd been there - I'd like to see if my dogs have herding potential.

Did anyone go to the NW Pet & Companion Fair last weekend with their Aussie? Did you try to herding assessment? Every time I go I soooo want to take my Pearl and see what she'll do!

I just wanted to introduce the newest member of my Aussie family! Rowan joined us on Friday morning. She is 1 year 7 mos. old, a lovely red merle (with very little actual merling) that came from HeRD of WY rescue after being returned to the humane society for the 3rd time. She needs a brush up on her overall manners and she will nip when excited, but she's a really easy girl to train and confident but defers to Kiva & Jester. There are a couple of photos on my profile (I also added some of Kiva, finally). We'll be taking a basic obedience class just for the brush up, and she starts flyball in two weeks.

We thought for sure Syd was a Standard when she was little but now we're convinced she's just a little bit on the big side of mini. She's AWESOME! And the *perfect* size. ;)
