Thoughts About Projects to Raise Money

From Seth Godin's Blog:

I'm putting this up for those who do fund raising activities. It's an interesting perspective and worth thinking about.

Enormity

Enormity doesn't mean really enormous. It means incredibly horrible.

The problem with enormity in marketing is that it doesn't work. Enormity should pull at our heartstrings, but it usually shuts us down.

Show us too many sick kids, unfair imprisonments or burned bodies and you won't get a bigger donation, you'll just get averted eyes.

If you've got a small, fixable problem, people will rush to help, because people like to be on the winning side, take credit and do something that worked. If you've got a generational problem, something that is going to take herculean effort and even then probably won't pan out, we're going to move on in search of something smaller.

Not fair, but true.

Reading Seth's Blog made me think there may be a need to think about a new paradigm for raising money. There are so many important and wonderful causes, I wonder if we are raising money in the most effective way possible?

I hope your client with the 4 dogs comes to the Riverfest so we all get a chance to meet this fabulous man.
See you all Saturday

I have a client who just recently paid for an entropion surgery out of his own pocket for another man's dog. The man is on disability and couldn't afford the needed surgery and my client found him on Craig's List and offered to meet with him and followed through with full payment for the surgery. These stories are so amazing and I love to hear about them! This client of mine also has four of his own dogs and is hoping to fund/foster other dogs in need. He's got such a huge heart!

YAY!!! They are so close to their goal. CHECK OUT FIONA'S FUNDABLE PAGE... let your friends and family know and see if anyone can help them reach their goal.

when asked, I have been known to donate a small portrait package to some fundraisers, these often get raffeled off and can be quite profitable to the fundraiser, often netting 3 - 6x the face value ... contact me for details ... I can't do it daily, but I do try to accomodate everyone LOL

Hi Sidney & Kim,
This is a good idea. Maybe you can put up the website you use and I found another one called ChipIn.com. Let's see if this works as a way of alerting members about current campaigns and special needs for dogs.
pdxdog.com members are not in any way expected to use this or feel any pressure at all. It's is a way to help if you so choose.

Andrea
