A Big Opportunity for pdxdog Members!!!

pdxdog™ received a special request from the folks planning the 1st Annual Riverfest Festival to bring the Portland Dog Community to the South Waterfront on September 6, 2008 from 11 - 6 PM.
It's a wonderful opportunity for the membership of pdxdog™.com! Do you have ideas for what we can do, and how we can make it really special? We want to make it a ton of fun - a spectacle. We could do fashion shows, photography, agility, a dog parade, adoption, etc.

Our next meeting is Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 5:15 pm at Hotel Monaco. I will be posting all updates soon.

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help! We will need your hands I'm sure. Please bring your cards, etc to put on the pdxdog table.

There is no limit to how creative we can be...

Hello Andrea

Any idea about where the parking will be for unloading and getting crates, dogs, etc., set up. I have an extra 12X12 Tent if you think it would be needed.

The Pet Parade starts at 11:30. Anyone can enter. Pet Parade: The Parade will be pdxdog™Town's kick-off event. PDXJazz will be playing while the dogs walk around in front of the stage area. Our Judges Are: Deb Wood (The Oregonian), Art & Daryn (Hotel Monaco) + Elan & Kenji (Greatest American Dog). Deena's husband will be the MC.
Each judge will pick 3 dogs, 1 in each category:
1. Dogs who Most Represent the Festival Theme "Dogs Celebrate the Willamette River"
2. Most Creative Costume
3. The Funniest Costume
Each dog, picked as a finalist in each category, will be given a card to fill out, the judges will collaborate and one prize will be given in each category.

PS!

What does the parade entail? Who might enter?

Thanks, Andrea! I will be there will bells on my toes. Or at least with a smile on my face! Shall I bring any hand-outs from OFA or CERF, and should I bring a posterboard* with dog pix (Cavaliers)? And should I bring a dog? Might be easiest to bring an adult, JoJo is a well-socialized gentleman, very used to an admiring public - he knows how to work a crowd! Are there shifts/times, or just show up and stay as long as we are needed, or what?

Hi Sandra,
There is going to be a pdxdog.com table and I want everyone who wants to to put their cards on it. The idea to promote the collaborative and supportive nature of our network. I'm sure we can use your help as a volunteer, no problem.

We are definitely still accepting Raffle items, so that would be great. Don't worry about future meetings as there is only one before the event. Helping hands on this Event are always needed.

Thanks to everyone who has offered to help!!! We are going to start setting up around 9. The Parade starts at 11:30. I'll write a more detailed update.

Hello everyone!

I wasn't able to attend the meeting(s), and was thinking that I would not be able/interested in joining after finding out that the charge was $250 - which is way too rich for my (fairly new) dog club, however, now I am re-thinking my position, and coming to the conclusion that I can still participate - at the pdxdog.com table! There IS such a thing, right?

I would be very willing to man a table, answer questions, have a dog (or 2?) for people to pet, and hand out any information. I am also very willing to bring OFA & CERF information, as well as AKC information, should there be a desire for health or dog hand-outs. I am the community events person for my breed club, and a shy, quiet, reserved person, NOT, so very well suited to meet-n-greet situations! I would love to jump in and help - if there is a need for that. Would the powers-that-be let me know if I might be needed? If so, I would figure out a way to make future meetings!

And, while I'm thinking of it, I am the raffle chair for my club as well, and I do have a couple of items that were donated for one of our raffles (I've raised several hundred dollars for the club, we've had some generous donations) which were not claimed, and at least one of them would be perfect for dogs other than our Cavaliers!

thanks,
Sandra

I know it is coming up fast, but I would be happy to help with any last minute planning for the Sept. 6 event. I can also help out with anything that day. I will be there representing Oregon Dachshund Rescue, and just having fun with my dog, Milo!

Sorry I've been MIA the last meetings, the new job has been keeping me late. I promise I'll be there for the next one!

Question Answers:
The idea behind the Dog Walkers Corps is to be available (you can pick your time) to walk dogs that look like they need a break and promote your business at the same time. Also, please bring your business cards for our pdxdog™ table.

Barb, I'm hoping that the Dog Walkers on pdxdog™will use this as an opportunity to help us out and promote their businesses.

Dogs are welcome at the Hotel Monaco's planning meetings if they are relaxed and don't wander too far. We are in their administrative offices.

If you are interested in the Corps, just let me know and what time you want to commit to walking. I'll start a topic above so you guys can sign up and you won't get lost in all the activity.
