This group is to share information on the nationally recognized Dogs & Storks program for expectant families who also live with dogs. Cindy Bruckart is a Licenced Dogs & Storks Presenter.
Hey everyone,
Yesterday at school, I was speaking to one of my peers and she mentioned how excited she was to go home this weekend and meet her parents Bassets that they just adopted. She showed me a picture and I asked her if they were Leah and ...

I am a Certified Pet Dog Trainer and a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). I own and operate two dog daycare & training centers, The Puppy Playhouse, one in Sherwood and one in Newberg. I am also a contributing blog writer for Dr. Ian Dunbar's website, www.dogstardaily.com and I administer the CGC tests for the dogs at Project POOCH before they go to live at their forever homes (www.pooch.org).
Recently, I became the state's only Licensed Dogs & Storks Presenter, a program for expectant parents that helps them prepare themselves and their dog(s) for life with baby and dog. More info is available at www.dogsandstorks.com.
I live with husband, Roger, our five wonderful dogs and four amazing cats. We also have a large Koi pond, and yes...we love our fish!
The thing that gets me most excited about working with people and their dogs is the sneaky way that dogs have of helping their humans deal with personal issues they don't even know they have. Help the dog, help yourself...and vice versa!
Introduce Your Pets
Russell: 13 yr old, male JRT who has no idea how old he is! Russell has taken responsibility for teaching all new pups in the house how to play and has also co-parented two litters of kittens.
Rodie: 7 yr old, male Yorkie-Poo who was my first Valentine's Day present from my husband. We imagine that Rodie (short for Rodent because he was the size of a rat) has an English accents and would wear a Derby hat and carry a cane if he could. We're also sure that he feels a bit cheated because he didn't end up on the lap of a retired person who had nothing to do but pet him, and only him, all day long.
Izzy: 2 yr old, female Chow/Lab/Shepherd mix that we adopted at the age of 6 weeks from a neighbor who had puppies in their barn. I took her early because I was very worried about her fearfulness. The pups were being given away, so I was afraid she would not get the socialization she needed and end up in a shelter someday. We have worked hard with her, and it has paid off nicely. She is the most lady-like dog I've ever encountered...I imagine that she would appreciate it if we would serve high tea each day and put some pearls on her.
Emma: 2 yr old, female Pit/Lab/Shepherd mix who came to us from an abuse situation. She was being beaten with a skateboard in a Portland park at the age of 12 weeks. My intention was to find her a home, but Izzy fell in love with her instantly and it was quite obvious that they were meant to be together. Who am I to deny destiny? Emma is NOT lady-like in any way! She has a true lust for life and is always up for an adventure...the muddier, the better!
Suzi: 1 year old, female Basset Hound who really surprised me. Never in my wildest imagination did it even occur to me that I would ever own a Basset Hound! Now, I can't understand why everyone doesn't have at least three of them. She is the love of my life (don't tell the other dogs!) and is teaching me much about contentment, living in the moment and the value of napping.
Do you have a special skill, idea, or talent to share with us?
I've met a couple of really cool people who are members here, so I thought this would be the place to meet more of them.
How did you find us?

Hi, Cindy,
I was just reading the APDT Journal and saw a familiar name! ;-) Nice article about dog daycare. I also realized we have a friend in common -- Greta Kaplan -- who has often said yours is one daycare she would actually recommend to her clients.
I see you have a seminar coming up that looks very interesting. Unfortunately I'll be in Canada for a flyball tournament that weekend or I would be there! Hope you do it again soon (on a non-flyball weekend, of course!)
Hi Cindy! I hope all is going well at the Playhouse! Are you attending the Masters in Behavior Seminar next week? If so, I'd love to have lunch with you one of the days. I hear such good things and enjoy reading your comments and advice on this site.
Best,
Denise
I just got back from Project Pooch. I did a one hour Intro. to TTouch for Joan and the handlers, and one of the Pooch Board members. I'll put together a program and teach them the basics of TTouch. I'm really looking forward to it!

So now that I am expecting, my husband and I want to get our pups ready for the arrival of a new family member. Is the Dogs and Storks program a class or consulting service?
Good for you, and thank you for your efforts. Lord knows they need it! If I had more time I would help them all. Love Amy at Pixie, what a great gal, pretty too! I can see us all marching downtown together with banners accross our chests stating ANIMAL RIGHT= MORE HUMAN RIGHT!. But I would have to wear my tiara (fake), with a black tafata dress and all my dogs dressed in rhinstones and premier gentle leadersLOL. Going to sleep. Have alot on my plate tom. What do you think of Crossroads vet? How's biz? I think I hired a girl that used to work for you. Joleen? did you hire her back?
OMG, I totally recognize you now! I met you at the OHS. How's that going? I'm out there every Wed, training and shaving butts! When are you there? Maybe we could hook up for lunch and speak dog!
Momma Sunday
