Yeah, they probably won't want to do it but it's worth the expense- imagine if his recent bites were the result of a funky tyroid- I have heard of a few pitbulls written off as being aggressive and then having their health thoroughly checked. It mig…

I am sorry to hear about this- did Denise give you an honest opinion for how workable this situation is or a sort of prognosis? I mean I have worked with her with my dog and she has been great. She isn't a fortune teller but she is a realist and ver…

Kara,
Whitney (pawsitively clean) is thinking of organizing a neighborhood event for pits in the Hawthorne. You might want to contact her.

No they were reccomending to go with the clackamas county ordinances anyways. But the manager of the clackamas county dog services spoke and she is very much a pit lover and assured them that adopting the clackamas ordinances is the best option and so basically i think they would have agreed with anything she said. but there were a few other speackers a lady from the akc am staff club did a really good job representing pits in a good way.

Hi Kara! I have just started reading Pitbull Placebo and find it REALLY interesting! Karen Delise also wrote "Fatal Dog Attacks...the stories behind the statistics" and that book went beyond breeds of dogs responsible for attacks and into their living situations. What she found was an overwhelming number of the attacks were statistically by dogs that were kept tied, in a pen, were fertile, and were newly acquired. The woman's research ability is definitely something to be admired! And the information she obtained should be brought to the light for government officials for then need not to look at breeds but at how animals are being kept and how that contributes to their behavior. She made a great statement that the majority of dogs that attack are not your beloved family pet. Because beloved family pets are not kept tied outside and left unsocialized and untrained.
Sorry for the long comment!! Just havent met many people that have read her books!! :-)

Hi Kara,
You'll be happy to know that Ray has an adopter! He is a really great dog and has a place with us no matter how long it takes. Check out our page for a great photo of him at a recent Adoption Outreach. I see that you are not able to foster, but there are other ways to help. We rely heavily upon our volunteers for potty walking, handling dogs at outreach, and working in the kennels. Check out our website for volunteering information: www.multcopets.org

Thanks!
Stephanie

Profile Information

welcome. tell us a bit about yourself.
At one time I was a big cat fan and was actually afraid of dogs... My first dog was/is Ruby, a pitbull! I got her because my boyfriend had worked at the Humane Society in Phoenix. If you don't already know, 6000 pitbulls are killed a day in shelters. Unfortunately, she was going to be next. She was abandoned in an apartment at age 2 and was pregnant. The landlord took her to the Humane Society and while her puppies were adopted out, she was not and stayed at the shelter for a long time. She was in the "Lonely Hearts Club" which is like the last stop for doggies there. She only cost $35 and time was running out. I lived in an apartment with my boyfriend and of course, they did not allow pitbulls. When he suggested we get Ruby, I thought he was nuts. But I (no joke) had a "telling dream" and decided we would have to adopt her. We had no place to take her or a plan to speak of (not recommended). I figured that once the apartment managers learned of her potential fate, they would have to allow her! Alas, not everyone shared my concern. I had alittle money from a horrendous sexual harassment lawsuit. I broke our lease and amazingly found a house to rent for $700 with a huge yard. We lived in our house without any utilities (there is a wait time to get them turned on- two weeks) and though its Arizona, it was freezing and we had no hot water! So, we slept with Ruby the pitbull between us and all was warm. We got sued for breaking our lease and finally I got what I thought was a lawyer (turned out he wasn't!) and settled the case with my settlement money. My nest egg is mostly gone, but as cheesy as it sounds- my heart is full. Ruby was companion during the worst of times, in a scary central Phoenix neighborhood. She watched over me when I was followed home by two men and growled when people crept through my yard. She still sleeps with me and I consider her to be one of the best things to ever happen to me. She has taught me patience and love, for underdogs both canine and human alike! She has opened my eyes to the horrendous abuse and misjudgment of bully breeds around the globe and forced me to become a better person. Ruby has inspired me to go to law school to help protect animals and also to have the funds neccessary to help discarded pitbulls in the future. She drives me nuts at times, but she is my best friend. I am no longer regarded as the crazy cat lady. Now I am called the crazy pitbull lady, and you would be to if you went through all that we have together.
introduce your pets, we love to know and see them

Fellow Dog Lovers Unite...

Hello, friends! I often do not watch the news because a friend of mine used to work as a writer for a local news station. Her stories are disheartening and depressing, about news writers listening to police scanners and cheering at the sound of bad news to report. Her stories are real and enough to make one permanently refuse to watch the news. She says that obviously stories are written to incite specific reactions and to attract viewers, of course. Because I do steer clear of local news channe… Continue
