Thanks, we eat two small meals a day so that should help with bloat...she had a tummy tuck of sorts so she shouldn't have a torsion for at least two years...or longer as long as her stomach doesn't stretch too much.

Profile Information

welcome. tell us a bit about yourself.
I work as a research assistant in the Beaverton area. I LOVE doing things outside like hiking, swimming, running, and pretty much anything (not a big fan of gardening though). Aside from my dogs my interests are triathlon, running, skiing (cross country and downhill), snowshoeing, hiking, and just anything that gets me up and going outside!

I'm also a HUGE Christmas freak!! Hands down it's my favorite time of the year! I basically start looking forward to each Christmas on Dec. 26. I've got all sorts of traditions already. My favorite so far is one that I actually started doing at our house once we got our whole theater system up and running (it's a projector on a HUGE screen with surround sound and all that jazz). It's our annual Christmas Movie Marathon. We watch Christmas movies all day from about 8am (I start breakfast at 7am) until about 11:30pm, with a couple of breaks for lunch and dinner. I just love the warm fuzziness of Christmas!

Right now with the dogs my interests lie in conformation, agility, tracking, and pulling sports like skijoring and dog scootering. More recently I got a Diggler dog scooter and it's been so much fun! Gives me a way to do some dryland training with the dogs. I'm hoping to add weight pulling and possibly something else to the roster eventually.:)
introduce your pets, we love to know and see them
We've got two wonderful great danes! Heffner is the older of the two. He's a natural eared mantle merle. I currently do skijoring with him and we've been taking agility classes for a while now and are just starting to compete in trials! We've also been taking some tracking classes, and because I always have to have a goal in mind, I'm hoping to enter him in a tracking trial by the end of year. We'll see if my schedule allows me to work that in! He also LOVES swimming and enjoys swimming around in the lake with me during the summer. He's a wonderful boy who does have some issues with some dogs, but we're working through that and I'm pleased with the progress he's made. Other than that he's totally willing to try pretty much anything I throw at him!

Our second dane is Bess, a natural eared fawn female. She's my little show girl and is now officially pointed!! Right now we're doing the conformation thing and she's really starting to come into her own! More recently we've started into some agility classes and although she started out a little hesitant, she's proving to have excellent focus and is just having a blast with what we've done so far! I've also just started her up in some tracking classes. While she hasn't taken right to it like Heffner has, she's slowly catching on to what I want from her. She also just started getting hooked up with Heffner this winter for skijoring. Heffner keeps her on the straight and narrow when they're hooked up together, but when she's pulling on her own she's a wild child! She's also probably the loviest, most energetic dane that you will meet! She has an enthusiasm for life in general that's so fun to be around!

My new blog!

Phew! I've been so busy with the dogs that trying to keep up with different groups and staying in touch with people has gone a bit by the way side.:( To try and help keep up with everything and let everyone know what we're up to (and let them know that I'm not ignoring or neglecting them on purpose!!), I've started my own blog!! http://lifewithbigdogs.blogspot.com/

I'm having a lot of fun with it! It's sort of helping me get some sort of creative juice out there. I used to do a ton of scrapbook… Continue

Heffner's First Q in Agility!!

This weekend Heffner and I had our very first agility trial!! It was so exciting! It was a CPE trial down in Corvallis. I had him entered in Standard, Colors, and Wildcard on Sat. and Snookers, Standard, and Jumpers on Sun. I think that Sat. was about finding a groove and getting used to the new arena because he was definitely more distracted. Colors was kind of all over the place, but we did get first place in his height division! Just no Q. Wildcard went really well and we Qed with another fir… Continue

Bess' first point!!!

First of all WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!! Bess got her first point yesterday at the Willamette Valley Kennel Club show in Salem under judge Mr. Edward F Lyons Jr.! And she did it in a pretty big way. She went Winner Bitch, which secured her the point. Then she went Best of Winners and Best Opposite Sex over two specials! There weren't quite enough danes entered for her to get the bump up to two points for the carry over. But I am just too thrilled!! We've been working really hard and she's been getting… Continue

Agility Fun Match!

Yesterday Heffner and I did an agility fun match put on by the Columbia Agility Team (CAT)! This is the second one that we've been to and it's been a really great experience both times! Since we haven't entered a trial as of yet, I figured this would be great for us to both get a more laid back feel for what a trial is actually going to be like. It's definitely a lot different walking the course myself and trying to figure out where I need to be, how I need to cue Heffner, and what speed I need… Continue

Gresham Teddy Bear Parade!

This morning Heffner, Bess, and I were part of the Teddy Bear Parade in Gresham! We went to support the Willamette Valley Great Dane Rescue. It was a lot of fun! There were a lot of people and dogs there as well as plenty of horses. Thankfully Heffner was on leash, so there were no horse chasing incidents! Our little group of danes were decked out with their teddy bears and proudly marched along the parade route. Unfortunately Bess had to go #2 about half way through. Nothing like going to the b… Continue

Hey Lindsay! THANK YOU SO MUCH for doing the seminar, we have a little gift for you at the store as a "thank you", let me know when you think you can come by and I will make sure I am here, I would love to talk more about dog shows, etc! :) I am picking up our first conformation dog tomorrow, a 1 year old sheltie. If Skye and him get along (Fingers crossed, Skye's kinda picky) then he will be my husband's show dog for rally and agility, and we will all show him in conformation. ttul!
