Lost Pet Reunions and Pet Adoption

We are no ordinary County "Pound"!!
Our shelter is in the forefront with some of the most progressive programs in the nation! We implemented the Open Paw Program (www.openpaw.org) over almost 2 years ago and the difference it has made is incredible! Our Shelter Hospital is AAHA accredited (and was the FIRST area shelter to earn this credential)-this means that we have met the highest standards of care for the animals we treat. We have an on-site Veterinarian and three Certified Vet Technicians. If you have not visited your County Animal Shelter in a while, you are long overdue! Come by and see us sometime!

Multnomah County Animal Services serves the entire city of Portland and all reaches Multnomah County. All stray animals come to the shelter in Troutdale. After a holding period, three days for animals with no ID and 6 days with ID, they are adopted or in many cases, placed with other agencies or programs.

We transfer, on average, over 800 animals each year to other shelters and adoption groups!
Our Agency Statistics are posted at: www.multcopets.org

Pitbull Puppy Raisers Needed!

Our pitbull puppies often grow up in the shelter and miss out on really important developmental learning experiences. Our pitbull pups generally stay with us for anywhere from 3 weeks to 2 months and sometimes longer. The average age upon intake is 10-12 weeks old. Foster homes that specialize in raising these pups can make a HUGE difference in the kind of dogs they will be as adults. If you are interested in being a pitbull puppy raiser, please contact me: stephanie.i.collingsworth@co.multnomah… Continue

You can help shelter dogs learn important skills like: crate training, house training, basic manners, and find out more about them to help make good adoption matches. MCAS believes in reward based training only and is looking for like minded foster parents. We will provide training for you as well as behavioral and medical support and you provide structure and compassion.
