About 10 years ago, I started volunteering at the Oregon Humane Society. This was just about the time they were breaking ground on their brand new facility. My special project was to go through the society's archives and organize all the historical materials and prepare them for archiving at the Oregon Historical Society.

It was at this time I first heard about Bobbie, the Wonder Dog. Bobbie, was a Scotch collie-mix, that became famous in 1924 after he found his way home to Silverton, Oregon after getting lost in Indiana six months earlier. He became an interntional celebrity and upon his death, was buried on the ground of the Oregon Humane Society.

To this day, Bobbie is visited by school children who are told the story of Bobbie's amazing travels.

I spent a year researching Bobbie's story and eventually met the grand-daughters of the original owners of Bobbie. I had the priviledge of looking through numerous scrapbooks and photos that been preserved by the families. It was through these old newspaper clippings, photos, letters and mementos, that my book "Wonder Dog" unfolded.

To this day the town of Silverton honors Bobbie, with his own day on February 15 which is the anniversary of his return to Silverton.
