Last night's thunder storm!

At 3am, I was jarred awake by the sound of volcano erupting--no, not really, but in my slumber I had no idea the noise was until I threw the curtains open and saw the lightning.

Within the same minute, three pairs of eyes came running into the bedroom. Spot was whining at me, Merle needed a hug and big Emmett wanted me to hold him. The four of us got onto the bed together. Mine you, we only have a queen size.

My body took form at the top of the bed along the wall, where the pillows were, while the dogs found their own spots. Emmett typically takes up most of the bed bc of the way he has to get on the bed and his inability to move and wiggle the way the other two can.

As time progressed, I lost two of the dogs to the floor, but Emmett, my big baby remained.

This is going to be an interesting 4th of July. I am thinking the dogs will have to make room for 'dad' when he returns from his business trip.

Maybe I should use this opportunity to talk about getting a king size! Ha!

Anyone else have some scaredy cats in bed with them?

Hi Libby; I am EXAUSTED! Our boy dog doesn’t understand what all the fuss is, but Stella Aussie Princess came unglued. I really feel like she is going to have a heart attack when she gets worked up over thunder or fireworks. She pretty much laid on top of me and shook. I finally got her in the tub (which is her ‘I’m scared’ place) at about 4:00 AM.

Thankfully, no; Atlas doesn't seem to mind thunder or fireworks. Though I have never tested the latter by taking him to the fireworks, I figure that might be a bit much. You might need that king-size bed! I hope they don't mind the fourth as much as this.

We live in hillsdale. I'm from the midwest, so I am used to thunder-boomers, but I have never heard thunder like that before. We're not too far from the red and white radio tower, so I think that may have been attracting it.
My dogs kept close, but were fine.
My 10-year-old human, on the other hand, was a nervous wreck. he didn't believe me that the lightening wouldn't hit us. I spent an hour just sitting with him as the thunder rolled and he jumped.

Man, I totally missed it! First of all, I usually sleep like a log, so somehow it didn't wake me. Both Heffner and Bess couldn't care less about fireworks or thunder. So I'm pretty stinkin' lucky! I vote for the kind size bed!

Poor scaredy cats! :) We've been lucky lately, actually. Our doxie Cedar used to be completely high strung/neurotic about noise, and would howl at any thunder (no matter how far away) and fireworks. When we lived in the city we would have to load her up on benadryl during storms to calm her down. But now, for some odd reason, since we've moved to the county, she's really calmed down. She didn't howl once during the thunderstorms, and stayed pretty calm on last 4th of July. Either she's mellowing out, or going deaf! :P One other dog and one foster are both deaf, and the remainng dogs have never really cared about thunder that much.

Yup, Marley pretty much freaked out at 3 am! Convinced him to curl up with us but then he stayed awake through the storm, ears perked up and eyes wide open.

Oh my goodness, Alfie's reaction was totally hilarious. He never reacts to loud noises, fireworks, or booms but he totally thought he could "fight" the thunder! It was the first time, to my knowledge, that he has heard it. He growled and howled for the first couple booms but then settled down afterwards. My little 6 lb baby taking on a big ol' thunderstorm! It was so funny :)

I am usually a very light sleeper, but appartently not last night. I didn't hear anything..my dogs sleep with me all the time and they were fine...Gus my big guy is scared of many, many things but lightening and fireworks do not seem to affect him. Thank goodness.
Remains to be seen what they will do tomorrow..hopefully not too many people will be setting off fireworks around here.

Oh yeah. Ruby crawled up her dad's neck and hung there all night. Today was a trip to her vets for some Ace. She took a little tonight so hopefully we all will sleep better.
