This morning Heffner and I went out to Anderson Park in Vernonia for a 5K race benefitting their local food bank (Bess tweaked her shoulder and was home getting some unwanted rest). This past Dec. the town flooded and the food bank was there to help all the people in need.
Anderson Park is a really cute little park that has a few camp sites, a creek, and a corral for horses. There are trails leading away from the main camping area into other areas. The 5K route followed one of these trails towa…

Today my friend Jenny and I, along with our dogs, headed up to the Mt. Hood area to do the Burnt Lake hike. It's a really pretty area and the trailhead is sort of remote, but didn't take me an hour to find! We took our time heading up since we knew we had a little ways to go. We stopped several times along the way to pop down to the creek that parallels the trail most of the way, to let the dogs get a drink. It was pretty much perfect weather for a summer hike. The temperature probably stayed in…

Well, we found another way to beat the heat! My husband's aunt and uncle live on 10 acres out in the country. It's mostly wooded (which the dogs had a BLAST running around in), but there's a portion of it that's an open meadow of sorts. The meadow slopes downhill and just begs to have a giant slip 'n slide built on it. My husband's uncle is totally into building stuff like that and built quite the nice little set up with a little pool at the bottom. It's totally perfect for the people to get coo…

First of all, my dogs are NOT the couch potatoes that you hear so much about. Yes they do enjoy laying about on the couch, but that's usually AFTER having run around quite a bit. I take them with me pretty much any where that I possibly can. I'm also pretty particular about keeping them in shape. I've had the cardio part down pat for a little while and more recently I've adding some core conditioning thanks to Bobbie! And it's a total blast!
While the summer is a great season, the heat can kill…

Yesterday we met up with my friend Amy who has a dane and a weim and did the Oneonta Gorge hike up to Triple Falls. The day didn't start off too well when it took me an hour to find the specific trailhead that is mentioned in the book "Best Hikes With Dogs in Oregon." It's not the first time that the directions have been at least a little off in that book. However, if I had actually gotten out of my truck to read the vague laminated piece of paper up the trail, I would have discovered that the t…

Thanks for your kind comments on Jake. He's a big dog in a small dog body. I think he would enjoy your two very much, even 'tho they tower over him.

It was fun! I'm looking forward to our date :)
I hope your vacation was nice!
Love the photos of your dogs. I'm curious where the shots in the woods were taken. I'm always looking for more remote areas I can take my dogs as some are reactive. Thanks

Will I see you, Heffner and Bess tomorrow at Hondo? There's going to be an event for the Top Dog Awards through Spot Magazine.
Hope all is well :) Come by my booth if you guys end up making it! I'm sharing a space with Parkway Veterinary Hospital.
I took a dog massage class at PetUtopia last Sunday (Rubi with healnw - www.healnw.com). Really good class - and I was reading the July Spot magazine and noticed that she's giving the class at Sellwood Dog Supply this Sunday night. Anyway, I thought I'd mention it in case you're interested. :-)
