About Me: It's fun to know our members a little bit.
I just moved here a few weeks ago from Nashville, TN via Louisiana and Raga and I are thoroughly loving the change of scenery and pace. I work in the animal community and I'm also a touring musician.
Raga is a newly disabled dog and so I spend most of my time caring for him and doing therapy. He's in a cart, can't walk and has to be manually stimulated for urine and bowels. It's really really overwhelming. I'm looking for help and ideas because I've exhausted all my resources, so if anybody out there has been through this please get in touch!
What Kind of Dog(s) Do You Have? What are their name(s)? It's nice to know.
Raga is a Golden Ret./Blue Heeler mix. He's got a great personality and a huge spirit, very smart and can also be a prankster.
Why Did You Join This Network? This helps us meet needs and understand expectations.
I'm new to the area and I'm looking for resources and support groups to help with Raga's situation. I also am excited about meeting some new local animal lovers!

I just saw your thread in the Great Walks and Places to Go with your dog and saw that it was a little while ago, so I figured I'd post it on your page as well! Here goes: I'm a little late seeing this and you've probably gotten other suggestions from other people, but just in case, you should check out www.unsinkabledogs.com. They're located in Vancouver, so not that far.
Paula goes out of town to judge events, so may not respond right away. Rubi is on this website, so you might ask her questions directly. She is very good, and believe she does work on rehabilitation as she has independant clients and works with vet clinics as well. I know I would do anything for my dog, so my heart goes out. It is even tough for me seeing Baileys' signs of aging and thinking about losing him one day. He is now deaf and that has been interesting as well, but luckily I used hand signals when he did hear, so he understands alot. You tail wagging comment hits a chord as Bailey used to lay like he was sleeping and I'd say wag your tail and he would hear and respond....now he can't hear me say it, but we have signs for "look with love" and "wag the tail"....he's the coolest most human dog I've ever had probably because I've been self employed his entire life, so he has me around which is mostly positive, but he does have some serious separation anxiety. Take Care...you are in a great support network and am sure that will help immensely.
I understand the dedication and would do anything for my dogchild. Paula Ratoza on the site was our trainer and she is quite knowledgeable anc connected. She may be able to guide you and friend Rubi is animal massage therapist also on this site. Definately lots of dog lovers and support systems here. Welcome.
I am so sorry to hear that. I always hold my breath when Emmett falls, slips or is about to jump off of something too steep. If he injuries his front leg, I know that that could be the end of our lives with him. We are so lucky to get to have them as long as they are happy to be with us. We should get together. Emmett and I send you both huge hugs
Although my big guy only needs help from adaptive equipment when we are out in public, we nonetheless have to go the extra mile to everything that he deserves. I am glad you joined pdxdog, though watch it--it gets addictive!
Hey girl, welcome!! I know this community will embrace you and Raga and help you find the support and resources you need. Portland is an awesome & compassionate pet community, you fit right in! Raga is gorgeous, what a face!
