New pup pal.

Hilo found a new pup pal. His name is Satchel. Satchel is a 4yr old husky/cow dog mix. Satchel's previous family had to move into an apartment. They probably made the good choice of letting Satchel find a new home to play. Satchel has the best manners and training a dog can have. Hopefully Hilo will learn a few things from Satch. Satchel loves to play catch and swimming is his play of choice. He has a few pounds to loose, which will not be hard around the farm. We are looking forward to going to… Continue

Dog Heaven

What a hot busy summer this has been. My computer has been down and I have been too busy to get it fixed until now. We have been working hard and having fun swimming. Just last week, Hilo's best buddy Glacier passed. We are devastated by our loss. Hilo has been looking in the house and in the cars to find Glacier. We will be taking our time to find Hilo another best friend. Hilo tries to play with the old farm dogs and no one wants to play. Hilo then tries to play with himself tossing the bone.… Continue

Teia, That's awful! I believe that some dogs can be taught to overcome it's fear of water. I did with Marley [Bernese mt dog]. I probably have met 50 Berners. Only one act like a Lab. I took Marley on a 7-day rafting trip and each day took him in the water with me. He doesn't seek it out, like a Lab, but when it's warm, will go in, swim several feet and come out cooled and excited. Uma has swum twice and I intend to take her to the river several days in a row to teach her to overcome her natural fear. Larry

Teia,
It looks like you hubby/partner/? mt bikes. I took Uma biking at Siouxon Creek today. It was hot [80-85?] but we were by the stream. I went in swimming and Uma followed. I immediately planned with my friend, Marc, to take a video of her swimming. He got set w/ the camera, but she refused to do a repeat performance. Darn.

Hello Teia. We just joined Pdx.com and just trying to figure out how to use the site LOL. My dog Bailey and I love to snowshoe/hike and always happy to find a friend to join us. We typically go to Trillium Lake near Government Camp, but open to other locations. Here's photo sheet of one of our trips. (we can email...didn't seem to work)

Hi Teia! I think I possibly know you through my Dogster group Oregon Outdoors? If not, oh well. I started skijoring with Heffner this past winter and attended two sled dog races in the recreational skijoring division with him. This next winter I plan on getting Bess up to speed in the sport as well. Aside from the skijoring I've also taken Heffner with me when I've gone snowshoeing and just out cross country skiing. We just got Bess in April, so she hasn't had a chance to do any of that yet. I'm hoping to get some training in on both dogs this summer just getting them more used to the commands. Heffner sort of has gee down, but not reliably.

I am so glad you like the site! I know there are people who like to go to the snow with their dogs.

I also lost my first golden at 8 to cancer, it was really hard, it happened so fast.

Again, thanks for joining up. I'm curious about where you found us on dogster?
