Profile

About Me: It's fun to know our members a little bit.
pdxdog™.com is a product of my experience as a dog loving business owner in the Pearl District for several years. I loved meeting the people and dogs who came into my shop (Pearl Retriever) everyday.

In addition to working on pdxdog™, my friend Sam and I developed pdxdogfeeders in 2007. We wanted to design and sell the best dog feeders on the planet.

With our Double Diner and Oasis, pdxdogfeeders.com believes we have filled a void in the dog feeder market, with a perfect combination of form and function to create exceptional pieces of furniture.

Design Within Reach (DWR) has purchased the Double Diners for their Tools for Living Stores (TFL) a newer part of their company. We are really excited about this venture.

I am also a practicing social scientist, a graduate of UC Berkeley, and help organizations combine practical program planning and evaluation. I specialize in helping people to build programs, establish collaborative networks and create community partnerships which produce wins for everyone.

I work best with creative and innovative people, who like thinking outside the box, and are willing to take risks with ideas and share leadership.

I practiced what I preached as a Fellow in the U.S. Department of Justice. I was invited to evaluate President Clinton's Advancing Community Policing grants across the country. This is the program that Barack Obama and Joe Biden are talking about/the crime bill.

One result of that activity was a book on best practices in reducing crime and increasing public safety. In addition, I testified before the U.S. Congress on the prevention of complex social issues.

I am interested in community building and social networking. I love dogs and the dog loving community. I'd like this network to become a meaningful part of Portland life.
What Kind of Dog(s) Do You Have? What are their name(s)? It's nice to know.
Ellie - Golden Retriever, she is 3½ and quite a personality.
Jake - Golden Retriever. I lost him in 2004 when he was 8.
Why Did You Join This Network? This helps us meet needs and understand expectations.
To develop a positive & collaborative social network in Portland. An online "place" where members have a strong sense of ownership, inspire each other, and learn new things together. I think it will evolve over time.
How Did You Hear About pdxdog.com and this Social Network? We want to know how you found us.
I created it with advice from dog loving people and the desire to do something new and different.

pdxdog™.com was launched at the very end of March 2008.

Favorite Dog Product(s)
There are a bunch I really like. I love our Double Diners (pdxdogfeeders), the Sensible Harness, products by George (good price and well made), Buddy Belts, Isabella Cane collars and leashes (such great design and colors), Kong's filled with good wet dog food and frozen, Bodhi Toys, Jax & Bones Beds, and Olly Dog products.

You can find these products at BoneJourDog Bakery in West Linn, thanks Cindy! For those of you who loved the Cleopetra tags, I order them all the time for folks. Just let me know.

I'll think more about what we love best...
Have you read the Community Guidelines and Terms of Use in the Notes Section? This is very important to us all.
Yes, Yes, Yes

Pearl Animal Hospital

I've been trying to find out who is opening the new vet practice in the Pearl. I found out today that it is Dr. Courtney Anders, previously from Raleigh Hills Vet. It just so happens that she has been Ellie's vet since she was a puppy! Courtney wants her practice to be part of the community, to learn about our dog-loving vet needs, and make her practice vital. She is a great dog dentist too. She is a member of pdxdog.com and I know she would love to hear from you and your ideas. Stay tuned for… Continue

Advertising on pdxdog™.com & protecting our integrity

A message to all members of pdxdog: (I sent this email to every member in June, in case you didn't read it, I've decided to post it here for everyone to see.) Most everyone is doing a fantastic job of keeping the website clear of stealth advertising - thank you so much. I’ve sometimes get complaints from members, regarding other members, putting their websites in group, forum or event postings. Please don't do it. It is not my dream to be pdxdog's "cyber-cop". It's not a great j Continue
